Situation

We first got in contact with the projects in Sri Lanka in 2005 through the support of a project by the Shalom community of Norderstedt which was building a play school in the City of Galle.
Since the founding of Paulchen Esperanza, it has been our aim to find and support our own projects. We got in contact with the Shalom community through an old friend, himself being Senegalese, who is regularly visiting his former home and who is working for social projects in his country. By accident, he was on Sri Lanka over Christmas when the Tsunami happened in 2004. During this time he was actively involved in relief operations in the concerned regions: Back in Germany, he collected donations and personally distributed the money to reasonable projects as well as to individual persons and families on Sri Lanka.
Looking for projects that we could do by our own, my husband and I were travelling to Sri Lanka in July 2007 together with our friend and his family. Prior to the trip our friend asked one of his friends, Anslem Nanayakkara, from Sri Lanka to look for interesting projects in the poor parts of the country. His friend has been very experienced in this area as he has been organizing and supporting social projects on behalf of his employer on Sri Lanka.
During our time on Sri Lanka, we visited a variety of projects in the poorest parts of the country. Selecting the projects that will be sponsored by Paulchen Esperanza was a tough task given the poverty of the people all over the country.
After due considerations, we decided to sponsor the following projects:
The Paulchen Esperanza foundation will sponsor a new building for a play school in a village named Madugalle which is located about two hours by car to the east of Kandy in the mountains.

We are pleased with receiving help by the children’s parents through personal contribution during the construction phase. Additionally, we will take care that sick and handicapped children will receive medical care.
Hanguranketha
In Hanguranketha, about one hour by car in the south east of Kandy, there is a play school that is supported by a very involved lady and her parents. Due to the limited resources the play school is in a pitiful condition. The Paulchen Esperanza foundation is going to support the renovation of that play school.
Scholarships for indigent pupils and students
Besides supporting the play school, it was our concern to help individuals. We would like to help indigent girls and boys with their education (school, studies), e.g. there is a girl of great talent who is studying medical science. Her father died and her mother is suffering from cancer. Without support by the foundation, she wouldn’t be able to finish her studies. At the moment, the foundation is able to support three girls
