Situation
The situation in Tanzania with its 2 M orphaned children made an easy decision for us to support the orphanage. Due to the assistance of the honorary consul Mr Gotthardt we have found two projects where we are sure that the right persons are receiving our help, and that our help is really needed and necessary.
On the one hand, we are supporting the project „Kibaha“ that is close to Dar es Salaam. This is a home for orphans that is still under construction. The intention is to manage it like an SOS Children’s Village at a later stage when it is completed. As a first step we are providing financial support, the next step will be to find sponsorships in order to extend the help. Kibaha is located in a very poor area close to Dar es Salaam where you can find many orphaned children. The home is surrounded by three villages that all are provided with water from Kibaha.
It is also intended that the children of the surrounding villages should go to school in Kibaha.
The hope is that at the end of the day that one or the other child will be adopted by the village community and the community will be his/her new family. We liked that idea very much.
The second project that is supported by Paulchen Esperanza is a home for orphaned children in Tanga. Here, 80 to 100 girls are living in a home. We are supporting by partially taking over the school cost, and we would also like to support creating apprenticeship training positions. In order to provide some background information, it is worth to mention that most girls are facing big issues in school and are not suited to do studies. Therefore, it is important to provide them with apprenticeship training positions, so that they are able to earn their livelihood at a later stage of their lives.
Our concrete plans are to set up a bakery in 2007 at the Stehmann Haus. Thus, four girls will get the chance to train as bakers. Our more ambitious aim is to set up a training hotel in Tanga. Here, some of the girls could be trained in tourism and would have the chance to make a living of the growing tourism branch of the country. However, that is a mid-term goal.
The special thing about the Stehmann Haus is that orphans are receiving support beyond graduating from school. It is taken care that they complete an apprenticeship or pursue studies. Only after that they will get released. And that is the difference to state organized homes where children have to leave after graduating from school. In addition, they are running a tight ship regarding discipline, reliability etc. The orphans benefit from that www.pamoja-orphanages.org
